Temple Headache

Temple headache can occur in many forms. It can affect the left temple, right temple or both. It can be dull or sharp temple pain. Sometimes, this pain last for few seconds and sometimes it lasts for hours. But the person is unaware about the causes how the temple headache occurs. So, if the person sees some symptoms then he should immediately contact the doctor. Sometimes, this headache causes a blow to the head or can be caused by a virus. This type of headache does not cause any permanent damage to the body.

Causes of Temple Headache

Knowing the type of headache is the main step to get rid of temple headache. There are about 300 types and causes of headache. There are different types of headache which include temple headache. The various types of headache which affects the temple area are:-

Tension Headache

About 90 percent of people are suffering from tension headaches. This type of headache is also known as muscle contraction headache. Increased stress and emotional factors alone are not the causes for tension headaches. Some postures produce tension on the head and neck which increase the stress on the eyes and result into tension headaches. Some disorders can also be the cause for tension headache such as a disorder of the joint between the lower jaw and the temporal bone, degenerative arthritis of the neck etc. The pain which is associated with tension headaches can be felt in the temple area, forehead and back of the neck.

Migraine Headache

Migraine headache is characterized by severe pain on one or both sides of the head and in the temple area. The four types of symptoms can be seen among many patients but are not experienced by all the migraine patients are:-

  • The headache phase – frequent attacks can be experienced several times a week.
  • The prodrome – It occurs for hours or days before the headache.
  • The postdrome – depression, malaise, impaired concentration etc are some of the symptoms experienced by the patient.
  • The aura – flashing lights can be experienced by the patient before the headache.

Sinus Headache

When a person gets a cold or an allergy attack then the person will most frequently get the sinus headache. The symptoms of this type of headache are fever, fatigue and mucus will be thicker than normal and discoloured.

Treatments of Temple Headache

All types of headaches have different treatments for treating the temple headache. Some headaches go on their own or after a sleep and some headaches require serious treatments. Ibuprofen or Tylenol can be taken to reduce the headache around the temple area. Massage should be done gently around the temple areas which will promote general relaxation to the patient.

Exercise, aromatherapy, heat and cold etc are some of the best home remedies to relieve the pain around the temple area.
