Tension headache Home Remedies

Almost everyone has one at one time or another. Just about everyone who has had one, has tried the home remedy for it. But many are left pondering, forever asking themselves the question

"Which remedies work, and which don’t?"

Here are a few non-drug answers that could help you out.

First off, you might want to look at a quick overview of the tension headache. Also, taking a look at the home remedy again would be good. Once you have looked at the headache information, ask yourself if this is what type of headache you have. If yes, read on, if not, keep on looking for answers elsewhere. Always remember, if you have a new type of headache, or it’s unbearably bad, see a health professional immediately. This is no joke, headaches might not seem like much, but it can pose serious health problems if it is serious and goes on un-treated. But for now, why not try the home remedy for a tension headache, and see if that eases some pain?

The first part is to BREATHE. Take three deep breaths, slowly in and out. This is very good to prevent a headache when you feel it coming on.

Aromatherapy also works well. Breathing the aroma of 100 percent essential oils, such as lavender can relax you and ease a headache a lot.

Stretching, believe it or not, also works. Try stretching the back and upper neck. How?

Relax your shoulders; gently turn your head from side to side. Now, while turning from side to side, start to shrug your shoulders. Keep doing this for a minute or so.

Another remedy is to stand up, and inter-twine your fingers behind your back. Slowly lean forwards, raising your hands up as you lean. Slowly come back to the normal position, and lower your hands.

Massages! Personally, it’s the best. It is best when you have a masseuse or a friend do it, but massaging yourself still helps. Try rubbing the neck and shoulders. Make sure you are relaxed. Some professionals suggest that you find the sorest points around your back, and firmly place 1-2 fingers there and hold it for 8-10 seconds. Then ease the pressure, and repeat. Massaging your feet also works wonders. Try rubbing your feet on something hard. You can also buy feet-massagers for a few bucks at your local store or amazon.com. You would be surprised how much those 2 dollars help your headache!

EXERCISE! Now, it is not needed that you get out and run 3 miles a day. Not even a mile. Heck, you don’t need to run anywhere. Take a walk around the neighborhood for a half hour, and you will forget about your tension headache in no time flat.

If you can’t get outside to walk, then try this:

While sitting up straight, put your 2 feet off the ground for about 10 seconds, then relax.

Speaking of relaxing, that’s the next remedy. Relaxing gives you time to think. Just relax, have a few thoughts, and get your mind off of that headache!
