Causes of Headache

When many structures of neck and head are irritated, people feel a headache. The irritation of head and sensation of pain can be transmitted from one part to another parts of the nervous system. There are many forms of headache are experienced by people and each type has different causes. The following are the main causes of any type of headache:

Muscular tension and stress

Stress is the main possible trigger of the headache and it is defined as elevated heart rate, shallow breathing and hypertension. It can increase in the quantity of chemicals for stress such as adrenaline. Stress and muscular tension can make worse a headache in large number of methods, they may include:

  • Lowering a tolerance of one to pain
  • Reducing endorphins (natural painkilling chemicals of body)
  • Tightening the muscles, especially of the shoulders, head, upper back and neck.
  • Reducing the effects of certain medications such as painkillers.

Jaw problems

Pain can be caused by post-extraction infection; problems between the joint of the jaw and dental abscesses and pain can also associate of the head and face along with jaw problems. Muscular tension can be increased by misaligned teeth in the jaw and developed the headache.

Diet and food sensitivities

Many studies have shown that diet and food which people eat, it has played an important role in migraine and headache. There are large number of different causes of headache, they may include:

  • Withdraw caffeine, mainly caused by excessive and regular use of tea and coffee.
  • Natural chemicals in foods or diet like amines.
  • Fluctuations in the levels of blood sugar, which can develop headache
  • Food additives like Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

Eye Problems

If one has problems with eye vision like long-sightedness, he or she strains and squints the muscles of eye in order to the best focus vision. Diseases of eyes such as glaucoma may develop headache into many structures of the head.

Hormonal influences

Women are mainly affected by headaches or migraines as compared to men. According to various researchers, headaches or migraines can be associated by sex hormones. In women, it can be occurred during the menstrual period or prior to the menstrual period. Therefore, changes in the level of sex hormone play important role for associating headache or migraine.
